Leadlight and Stained Glass

Stained glass and Leadlight. The difference between the two ?

Leadlight is coloured glass leaded together to form a window. Leadlight and Stained Glass not only add aesthetically to a room, creating ambiance, atmosphere and character, they also lift the value of a house as they add richness and grandeur to the property. Leadlight designs can be simple, such as diamond quarry’s, grids of clear glass in the Tudor style or complex patterns as detailed as Art Nouveau style with flowing ribbons of colour and foliage, to contemporary graphic designs that push boundaries and express modern themes.

Stained Glass is coloured glass, painted with traditional stain paint which are fired into the surface of the glass then leaded together to form a window. Stained glass is traditional used in churches, also used in feature windows such as entrance ways and other important aspect areas. Today we also use stain paint in modern form, expressive techniques are used in a painterly technique, layering, bleeding, flowing the paint to create expression, rather than controlled picturesque form or traditional stain paint.
